I'm Aaron, a singer and guitarist based in Dorking, and I get booked for birthday parties right across Surrey on my own — the 40ths, 50ths, 60ths, the ones that turn into a proper night.
Solo, but a long way from a bloke quietly strumming in the corner. I play acoustic and electric, and with backing tracks behind me it fills a room like a band — for one person's fee instead of five.
And I run the whole evening. Live sets while everyone arrives and the room warms up, then I put the guitar down and DJ through to midnight so the dancefloor keeps going. There's no band and a separate DJ to book, and no awkward handover halfway through. One act, one PA in the corner, the night sorted.
What it costs
Booked separately, a function band is £1,200–£1,880 for the night and an evening DJ another £300–£755 on top — £1,500 and up for live music and a dancefloor.
£700
for a Friday, Saturday or Sunday — £500 Monday to Thursday
The whole night, 7.30pm till midnight — live sets and the DJ, one act. £250 holds your date, the balance on the night.
How the night runs
As everyone arrives
Live acoustic in the background — enough to set the tone, quiet enough that people can still hear each other over a drink.
When the room warms up
The songs everyone knows, acoustic and electric. This is where a nice evening tips into people singing along and the birthday person up dancing.
DJ till the end
Guitar down, decks on. I keep the floor going with whatever your crowd's into, take requests on the night, and read the room so it builds rather than empties.

Questions people ask
How much is a singer for a birthday party?
£700 for a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, and £500 Monday to Thursday — the whole night, 7.30pm till midnight, with the live sets and me DJing the rest of the evening on my own PA and lighting. £250 holds your date and the balance is due on the night. For comparison, a function band on its own usually runs £1,200–£1,880, and an evening DJ another £300–£755 on top, so booking both separately is £1,500 and up. I do the lot.
Are you a band or one person?
One person — but it doesn't sound like it. I play acoustic and electric guitar and sing, and with backing tracks running behind me you get a full band sound: drums, bass, the lot. All the sound of a band, none of the cost or the squeeze of fitting five people in your room.
Do you DJ as well, or do I need a separate DJ?
I DJ as well — that's the whole idea. Live music early on, then I put the guitar down and DJ through to midnight so the music never stops. You don't need a band and a separate DJ; it's all me, one setup.
How far ahead should I book?
As far ahead as you can, especially for a weekend. My dates book up a long way out — this year I had to turn down most of the party enquiries I got because the date was already gone. If it's a 2027 party, get the date in early.
Where do you play?
I'm in Dorking and play across Surrey, into London and the South East — Berkshire, Sussex and Hampshire too. Further afield is usually fine, just ask.
Can we request songs?
Always. Send me the birthday person's favourites and the songs your crowd will want on the dancefloor, and I'll build the night around them.
What people say
A few words from the venues, couples, and event hosts I've played for across Surrey and the South East.
“Love finding out Aaron is playing in a local pub near me — always such a fantastic night. My son surprised me with a party for my 40th and got Aaron to do the music; we had a fab night dancing and singing to all our favourites.”
“We loved having you there, Aaron — it made the night, and so many people have commented.”
